GRADUAN National Inter-Varsity Cultural Camp 4.0
GRADUAN National Inter-Varsity Cultural Camp 4.0
GRADUAN National Inter-Varsity Cultural Camp 4.0 which is organised by Persatuan GRADUAN Muda Malaysia (GRADUAN), joined by elites from 28 university organisations, co-organised by Malaysia Sin Chew Daily, Member of Parliament for P217 Bintulu Service Centre, GRADUAN Alliance and Rumah Robert Tugang was launched grandiosely at Rumah Robert Tugang from 4th August 2018 until 8th August 2018. NIVC4.0 was rich for aboriginal characteristics not only allowing the 220 participants to understand the culture of Ibans, but also fostered the friendship between Chinese and Ibans, as they were adopted by local families during the stay.
In conjunction with GRADUAN NIVC Camp 4.0 in Bintulu, Sarawak, GRADUAN Malaysia initiated a Mini Library Project. This initiative was supported by all participants and the Mini Library had successfully gathered 630 books of various genres. “Knowledge Changes One’s Destiny”. The launching of this project not only encourages reading culture, but a beginning of inculcating the mindset on the importance of education. We’re looking forward to more support from the society by donating useable and educational reading materials to the rural areas.
In order to foster the relationship between the participants and local residents, as well as giving them an opportunity to experience the culture of Bintulu, local residents adopted participants as their children and let them stay in their home. 135 local families each adopted two to three participants as part of their family members and during the 5day-4night stay. GRADUAN hopes to provide a platform for the participants to gain a deep insight on the local culture and ways of living of the local residents by interacting with their adopted parents, thus promoting the difference of culture between West Malaysia and East Malaysia.
Throughout the camp this year, the organising committee and participants had the opportunity to experience the culture of Bintulu and aboriginal people which in turn were beneficial for them. During these 5 days 4 nights, the interaction with the locals moved all the most. To most of us, if it is not for NIVC4.0, we will not have this opportunity to experience living in long house!
